Friendly Monster Amigurumi

A quick and easy amigurumi monster, perfect for beginners and adaptable to many colors.

Materials

• Worsted weight (Category 4) acrylic yarn, approximately 50 yards
• 3.75 mm (US F/5) crochet hook
• Stitch marker
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Fiberfill for stuffing
• Safety eyes (optional, 6mm-9mm recommended)

Pattern Instructions

Foundation

Start with a magic ring. If you are not familiar with a magic ring, ch 2 and then work the stitches of Rnd 1 into the second ch from the hook.

Body

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts) Rnd 2: [inc] 6 times. (12 sts) Rnd 3: [sc, inc] 6 times. (18 sts) Rnd 4: [sc 2, inc] 6 times. (24 sts) Rnd 5: [sc 3, inc] 6 times. (30 sts) Rnd 6: [sc 4, inc] 6 times. (36 sts) Rnd 7-9: sc in each st around. (36 sts) Rnd 10: [sc 4, dec] 6 times. (30 sts) Rnd 11: [sc 3, dec] 6 times. (24 sts) Rnd 12: [sc 2, dec] 6 times. (18 sts) If using safety eyes, insert them between Rnd 6 and 7, about 4-5 sts apart. Begin stuffing firmly with fiberfill. Rnd 13: [sc, dec] 6 times. (12 sts) Rnd 14: [dec] 6 times. (6 sts)

Assembly / Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Finish stuffing the monster. With a yarn needle, weave the tail through the front loop of each remaining stitch and pull tight to close the opening. Weave in any remaining ends.

Tips

• Use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round, especially important for working in continuous spirals.
• Pull your stitches tight, especially for amigurumi, to prevent stuffing from showing through.
• Don't be afraid to experiment with different yarn colors and textures for unique monsters!
